Dance
Ballet:
is the foundation of all kinds of dance. A strong foundation in Ballet is important in the growth and development of other forms of dance such as Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop. This class teaches the discipline and exercises of Ballet with a fun and light approach. Dancers will be taught ability appropriate positions, exercises and combinations for the barre and center floor. Beautiful posture, flexibility, strength, and grace are just a few of the wonderful benefits of Ballet. Leotards, tights and ballet slippers must be worn in class. Hair must be pulled away from the face.
Tap:
is a stimulating rhythm class teaching basic to advanced steps including time steps, turns, across the floor, choreography and combinations. Tap is very different from most other dance forms in that tap dance also involves the generation of sound; the tap dance performer is both a musician and dancer. This is a fun class that promotes coordination and concentration. Tap shoes and non-restrictive clothing must be worn.
Jazz:
is a more free-formed style of dance than Ballet but will also include stretches, barre work and center floor combinations. It is generally regarded that the basis for good jazz technique is ballet, which builds the strength and coordination required. We offer beginner jazz classes as well as advanced classes. Of course, all students studying jazz are encouraged to take ballet classes though it is not required. Note that all music and costumes (should the student be involved in a performance) are age appropriate.
Clogging:
is a traditional type of percussive folk dance, which is associated with a number of different regions across the world. The modern competitive clogging style incorporates aspects of the English and Irish step dances, American Appalachian clogging, tap and more. The high-energy style has opened the form to a wide audience, and the traditional styles also continue to flourish, with hundreds of workshops and competitions every year. Clogging shoes and non-restrictive clothing must be worn.
Hip Hop:
is an entertaining and light class that teaches contemporary moves to current music. Classes include stretches, across the floor and choreography. Students are encouraged to get creative in this class. We have both beginning and intermediate hip hop dance classes available. Hip Hop students are required to wear non-restrictive clothing and tennis shoes in class. Note that all music and costumes (should the student be involved in a performance) are age appropriate.
